1. Update Keyword Research and focus on predictive marketing for one keyword
Trends change regularly, and it is becoming more important to do predictive analysis and target future trends, not just chasing current trends. Look at the top priority keywords, and pick one to include in predictive analysis. From there you can go after a page to clean it up, or add some nice new content, or start promoting a new page with the predicted market focus.
2. Re-Optimize the Homepage
Based on the keyword research, clean up the home page and target pages that jump out as needing additional optimization. Think about what keywords your site can support and get those pages going in the right direction.
3. Login and Update (or claim) Your Google Maps and Yahoo! Local Listings Regularly
This should be mostly an administrative task, so delegate this with a simple task list of what to update. Weekly one aspect can be changed, a photo added, promotional info, etc. At the very least verify and claim your listings!
4. Update a Poorly Performing Pay Per Click (PPC) Google Adwords Ad
This is common sense but so often overlooked. Review the critical funnels and conversions, then jump on ads where there is high fallout. Of course it could be the content on landing pages, or you may have identified an issue in your latest keyword research, regardless it is important to hit this weekly. Also, make a quick weekly review your dynamic keyword insertion and other important aspects of your PPC setup to keep everything optimized.
5. Update and Optimize one Page, or Add a New Page (hint - predictive keyword!)
Maybe this is restating the obvious, but this is where we will apply what we have learned from our keyword and ad performance. Of course this can take longer than 10 min right? However, start with the cleanest and easiest changes, and perhaps the new page addition will span a couple of days - it really depends on your business model, e-commerce, and the scope of your analysis and keywords.
*6. Update Mobile App Info on Your Web Site, include QR Codes, Update the Alt Text
This should be straight forward, and what we what here is fresh information, and additional optimization as needed. OR Codes are very important, and they need alt text (as every image should have - don't forget the Americans with Disabilities Act - ADA). It is always helpful to make sure the benefits of your apps are clear and concise, and any differences between Android, iPhone, etc are mentioned because anything comparing and contrasting Apple and Google gets attention these days.
7. Advertise about your updates to your Social Media Outlets
Should I say that this should go without saying (-; We need to keep the social media relevant and fresh too, and whatever ties the web, mobile, and social together will help you dominate the entire first page of the search - that is the SERP we all look for from e-marketing efforts.
Other helpful tactics:
1. Place Your Address and Phone Number on Every Page
2. Monthly Update Your Sitemap
3. Link Facebook to Twitter
4. Regularly Add/Update Feeds *5. Monthly Update and Optimize Mobile App Meta Data in the App Markets
*6. Bi-Monthly Update your Mobile Apps in the App Markets
*7. Push your way to success - At least once a week, Push some news to your Mobile App Users
So can you afford ten minutes a day? Realistically, how about 15 or 20 min? Go for it and take on one task a day, and you will be able to measure the results (the boss will love that!) Maybe you will be start showing up in the Google 7-box, and how about dominating the Number One SERP! By taking incremental steps, you will effect big changes and then "reap the long term rewards that the new search engine algorithms are geared towards."
